Scissor-readiness check

This is not a pass-or-fail checklist. Use it to notice which part of cutting is already becoming available and where one small support may help.

How to use it

  1. Choose a calm moment and a short, meaningful cutting activity.
  2. Mark only what you actually observe—not what you think your child should do.
  3. Pick one unmarked area to make easier. You do not need to work on everything at once.
Begin with contextHow old is the child?

Age helps the Guide place these observations in a more useful developmental context.

Choose one next step

Let the response guide what comes next.

If holding the tool is hard, begin with setup and opening or closing. If the scissors work but the paper gets lost, focus on the helping hand. If the whole task feels like too much, shorten it to one successful snip.
