Cut With Purpose
My First Scissor Skills Workbook · Ages 3–5
Early cutting practice where every snip has a reason. Children cut grass, create a lion’s mane, add dinosaur spikes, follow paths, and use pieces to complete simple pictures and projects.
Who it is for
Young children beginning to explore scissors.
Designed for ages 3–5, with large pictures, bold cutting lines, short directions, color-first warmups, and a gradual progression from first snips toward longer lines, turns, curves, zigzags, and shapes.
The child is not cutting a line for no reason. Each cut changes or completes something meaningful, which gives the task context and makes practice easier to understand.
The skills underneath cutting
Scissor use is more than one hand opening a tool.
- Opening and closing scissors
- Holding and turning paper with the helping hand
- Watching a short path and moving in a direction
- Postural and shoulder stability for hand use
- Grading force, pacing, and continuing after a snip
- Control, confidence, and growing independence—not perfect edges
